Retro Dose #28 - Myst
img
Who am I? Where am I? These are just some of the questions we are looking for answers in today's Retro Dose in which we travel to the island of Myst full of puzzles and even more questions.

The genre of adventure has always been a bit complicated in terms of logical puzzles, but the title Myst in 1993 has taken a slightly different idea as its basis , but it was still a little complicated. In addition to the first person perspective , unlike most other ancient adventures, in Myst, you have not talked to other people or combined items to please someone or something. So, you must be wondering, what do you do in Myst? Honestly, I have no idea and I could never find out. That is exactly what it was, and it was the charm of this game that fascinated many people - you as an unknown person travel to a mysterious island in search of any trace of stories and some sort of sense by solving abstract logic puzzles.

First released for Mac, then for 3DO, Sega Saturn, Atari Jaguar and PSX console, Myst can be played on Windows today, and in the meantime it has appeared on PSP, Nintendo DS and even iOS . By the number of ports you might wonder if it was something extremely popular? Of course it was. Myst kept the record of the best selling title until 2002 when Sims took it down. It's critics wandered around, as it was simply not clear to many people why this was interesting or fun, and that same phenomenon was accompanied by The Witness, which was also tailored to Myst's measure.

But despite the mixed criticisms, Myst was very much praised, and of course there were numerous sequels. Riven: Sequel to Myst was, as the name itself mentions, the first sequel to Myst, which arrived in 1997. Myst III: Exile we saw in 2001, Myst IV: Revelation 2004 and finally Myst V: End of Ages 2005. In addition to this, a spin-off called Ura: Ages Beyond Myst was developed, and multiplayer components were planned . These shooters were exited to try to realize the MMO variant - Myst Online: Uru Live, but this project has been canceled. We all attribute this to the studio Cyan, for which we can only say that it was pulled into the fog in the same way that it came out of it.

But Myst's success does not stop with his successors. In order to further expand and complement the world of Myst, a few novels have been released, and in the form of a video presentation on Myst you can come to the Museum of Modern Art in New York today . One British agency acknowledged Myst as a means of learning in elementary schools , and somewhere between that, Myst also served in the research of aggression. But I think there are a lot of interesting stuff to make up for this so try not to be confused with these 15 minutes of gameplay straight from the first Myst.
