It's time for Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter which was developed by Nihon Falcom and published by GungHo and released on PC on 19 September 2025. Are you guys ready for this one? Personally I love Nihon Falcom games, so I had to play this one too!
Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter tells the story of Estelle and Joshua Bright, two young Bracers traveling across the kingdom of Liberl. The game begins with a quiet but important moment: Cassius Bright, a famous Bracer, returns home carrying a young boy he rescued, Joshua. Estelle, his daughter, immediately reacts with curiosity toward the newcomer, and that’s where their story begins.
A few years later, Estelle and Joshua are now teenagers preparing to take their Bracer qualification exam. This is where the real adventure starts, as they take on their first jobs and begin exploring the world outside their hometown.
Bracers are members of the Bracer Guild, an independent group of peacekeepers who help civilians, solve problems, and protect towns from threats. They stay politically neutral and take on all kinds of requests, from monster extermination to small investigations. Estelle and Joshua begin their journey as Junior Bracers, which is why so much of the early game revolves around taking missions from the Guild and proving themselves.
It sounds simple, right? And it is, but in a good way. The story isn’t heavy or overwhelming. It mixes lighthearted comedy with more serious themes like politics, trauma, growing up, and taking responsibility. It’s a gentle, character‑driven journey that slowly becomes something much bigger than it first appears.

Trails in the Sky uses a turn‑based combat system that looks simple at first, but there’s a lot to learn, which can seem overwhelming at first, but once everything clicks, the system becomes easy, logical, and enjoyable.
You fight on a small battlefield, and every action matters, your movement, positioning, and especially turn order.
Here is everything you really need to understand:
*Arts - Magic abilities (fire, water, wind, etc.). They require casting time and cost EP. Because they don’t activate instantly, so it's not always easy to use them, because some of them you can simply miss if you enemy decide to move or attack you.
*Crafts - Instant character skills fueled by CP. Every character has unique Crafts that do different things: extra damage, buffs, debuffs, stuns, area control.
*S‑Crafts - Powerful “limit break” attacks you can activate at any moment, even interrupting the turn order. They’re great for stealing a critical bonus or saving someone from dying.
*Items - Food, potions, and buff items are all usable in battle. Healing food is surprisingly strong early on.
One small but very useful mechanic is that you can attack monsters directly on the field before entering turn‑based combat. If you hit them first, you start the battle with an advantage, meaning your party gets the first turns. If the monster touches you from behind, they get the advantage instead, but we won't let that happen, right?
Side missions are a huge part of Trails in the Sky, because being a Bracer isn’t just about fighting monsters, it’s about helping people. Almost every town has a Bracer Guild board where new requests appear, and you can take on as many as you want, but be careful, they are time limited. If they have short time, you should do them immediately.
Honestly I did all side missions and I felt good about that, not overwhelmed or bored. The game has pretty normal, but at the same time unique side quests, between fighting to finding a cat. The main reason why I didn't skip any side mission was because I am a bracer right? So I feel like I should do all of them, after all that's my mission! To became the best Bracer ever!
The first game honestly feels like a prologue, but in a good way. It sets everything up, builds the world, develops the characters, and leaves you wanting more and with Chapter 2 of 3 coming soon, I’m absolutely going to continue the story, especially because Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter doesn’t necessarily end at a good moment, which is another great reason to jump straight into the next part. I honestly want to know more about their future, their journey, and how their bond develops. They feel real, and their personalities are so different but so perfect together.
So yes, I totally recommend this game. Play it. Right now. It’s good and honestly pretty chill. Every character brings something unique to the party, and if that’s not enough to interests you, then maybe Estelle and Joshua’s bond will?...or Joshua’s “dark past” he refuses to talk about...
Be a good Bracer and go help people. ;)
