Witchspire Review

Did you ever want to be a witch? No? Sounds like a you‑problem, because I definitely did! And if there’s even a chance you wanted that too… or even if you didn’t want it, you’re still here, so let’s go! The new game Witchspire released on June 10th, 2026 in Early Access, developed and published by Envar Games / Envar Publishing.

According to Steam, the game has Very Positive reviews despite some optimization issues, but what’s the truth? Let’s find out.

So… what is Witchspire exactly?
Witchspire is an open‑world witch adventure with a strong focus on exploration, creature collecting, magical building, and light survival elements. I say “light” because despite the survival tag, the game feels surprisingly chill, most of my time was spent exploring, fighting, upgrading my gear, collecting cute creatures, and... honestly I didn't even started to build my house yet. So think of cozy witch fantasy meets magical sandbox, playable solo or with friends.

I’m not usually into survival games, I like some of them, but overall they’re not really my thing. What did catch my attention, though, was the magic and the game looked gorgeous the first time I saw it, so I decided to give it a try.

And honestly? I didn’t know what to expect when I launched it for the first time, but I’m really happy with how it turned out. Despite the “survival” tag, there are no hunger bars, no constant resource pressure, no stress‑inducing mechanics. It's much more like a magical adventure game which I am happy about.
You don’t struggle to stay alive, you just live as a witch and for me, that’s perfect.

Witchspire also has its own bits of lore, and you can find them in the form of random books lying around in ruins, camps, or hidden corners, but not that hard to find either. They’re short and easy to read, so it never feels heavy or overwhelming. It actually makes exploration feel more rewarding, like you’re uncovering little secrets of the world at your own pace and if you’re not that interested in lore, that’s fine too, the game never forces it on you.

Combat in Witchspire is real‑time and very movement‑focused. You’re dodging, blinking around, throwing spells, and occasionally running away… like a gremlin when something bigger than expected jumps out of the bushes. It’s not super hardcore or punishing, but I wouldn't call it necessarily easy either early on. What I like the most is the fact that the game doesn’t overwhelm you with 50 buttons. You basically have right‑click and left‑click for your base weapons, which is enough, and of course Ctrl to dodge/blink and also not only double, but even triple jump!

But what about weapons? Here is good news for people who like to play melee or ranged, you can actually play both. There’s the option to play with a wand, but also with a magic sword, and each weapon has its own spells, so it’s not boring either. Some of the spells I didn’t like and some I did, so if I, for example, didn’t like the wand abilities, I played with the sword instead for now. Playing with a sword is also harder, just so you know, ranged is much easier, but you might also end up with low HP at the end of the fight, while melee is… melee. It’s up to you, learn how to dodge better and you’re going to be fine!

That’s not everything about combat. You also have pets, which are called familiars, and they fight with you. They are also sooo cute, like, really cute flying around and following you and you also level them up and upgrade them! You can have three of them and keep switching, each of them has different abilities, which you activate by pressing Q and E.

But what about witch talents? You have Luminance points, and you spend them on new things: upgrades, new weapons, and a lot of other stuff. The most important and exciting one was… the broom! Yes, you have a broom and you can fly, It makes things much better, at least for me it did, but the most important is... you are a witch!

I think the most important thing I didn’t mention when I opened the game for the first time… was the amazing graphics. Like seriously, the first world you see when you open the game was so beautiful, so that was a great first impression and... I'm not gonna lie, at the start I didn't know what to think about the combat, but in the end it grew on me once I found out more about weapons, upgrades, pets, so many things to learn, but at the same time it wasn’t overwhelming. Farming might take a while, especially to get new familiars, but you also have potions which help, so it’s not something I cared about in the end, since with exploration I was slowly getting everything I wanted.

I would actually recommend the game if you like chill exploration, some grinding, and… witches, because that’s all we care about, right? But if you expect a heavy survival game, you might be disappointed… well, I wasn’t, but that’s not what I wanted after all. I had fun and I will for sure play more with my friends, but I wouldn't mind at all to play it also alone, I think both ways are good. If you more solo player like me, you might enjoy the game alone even more. The game still might have some performance issues, which honestly I didn’t have a problem with, and to me it’s pretty ready to play already despite being in Early Access. There are a lot of things to do and it’s not a small game either, so take your broom and join my witch adventure!
