Ready for Clair Obscur: Expedition 33?
This game has everything you could want—stunning graphics, a beautiful story, and great gameplay. But let’s go back to the beginning.
The game is about a group of heroes on a desperate mission to stop a mysterious entity known as the Paintress. Each year, she awakens to paint a number on her monolith, and anyone of that age or older turns to smoke and vanishes. This year, the number is 33. And so the story begins.
The first thing you'll notice when launching the game is its breathtaking visuals. Personally, I’ve never paused just to look around and enjoy the view... but this game made me do exactly that and it's also well optimized, so even if your computer doesn't meet the recommended requirements, you can lower the settings and it will still look stunning!
The story was beautiful and interesting right from the beginning. Don’t worry, I won’t spoil anything! I really enjoyed it from start to finish. There were a few parts that were a bit confusing, but by the end, everything made sense.
Characters stand out for their unique backstories and gameplay mechanics.
Since I already mentioned the gameplay mechanics, let’s talk about them a bit more.
I usually like using keyboard and mouse, not a big fan of controllers, but this time I used a controller (recommended), and I’m glad I did. Can you play with keyboard? I think so! You can change some settings to help, but this game really made me like using a controller more.
The game is turn-based, but it’s far more than just casting spells, you also have a dodge and parry system, which plays a big role in the gameplay. Personally? I never used the dodge system. Why? Because I found the parry system more interesting and challenging, plus, it gives you more benefits, if you parry, you deal damage. Parrying is harder, because it has to be perfectly timed, on the other side dodge is more forgiving, even if you fail, you can press it again quickly. That’s not the case with parrying, I think it’s much better to learn how to parry from the start, but that’s just my personal opinion.
And that's not everything, you can also heal or revive your characters, what i find pretty useful especially if you are still learning how to parry or dodge, It’s not that easy, the game is definitely challenging!
It’s definitely not boring, each character has a different playstyle. You can level up all of them at the same time, even if they’re not in your current party, that’s a big plus for many people, you can try out any character or keep switching between them without worrying about leveling them up later!
There’s also a lot of exploration, tons of bosses, new costumes, and even some platforming! It’s hard to get bored, especially if you enjoy looking into every corner. The only thing I didn’t like was...... that damage is capped at 9,999. If you start exploring early, some boss fights can take much longer and i wanted to see my real damage! But later in the story, the damage cap is lifted! So you can just wait until then, and that’s probably what I’ll do next time I play the game. And yeah, I will play it again. Honestly, I kinda miss it already. Right now, I keep recommending it to everyone. It’s definitely my favorite game of 2025 and maybe even my favorite game ever!
The last things I wanted to mention are the beautiful music and the voice acting. I never really paid much attention to music in games before, but now I see how important it is in this one. Same with the voice acting, it’s excellent. You can really tell the developers cared about every detail. I definitely recommend giving this game a try!
