Alien Life Simulator

Description;

Alien Life Simulator is a rogue-lite, action-adventure game, set in an extra-terrestrial environment. Explore an alien universe and uncover the remnants of a highly advanced alien society. Fight for your life against hostile lifeforms in a fast paced adventure through the stars!

MANAGE YOUR EMOTIONS!

What is life without emotion? The emotions that your alien will experience will change the way you play. Other aliens will respond accordingly with Alien Life Simulator’s all new “Emotional System”. Your emotions can provide useful perks, but can also hinder your progress with debuffs that may change the way you experience life in the far reaches of space.

Premise of the game is that you are an alien with one job and one life. You hunt for food and collect resources to craft while exploring the various, yet limited amount of worlds that you can travelling through portals, or rather so called "Star Gates". You will see why I named it that way soon enough!

About the game

Developed and published by J6 Games, Alien Life Simulator depicts itself as different, and yes its definitely different in the form that you have to manage "Emotions".

Managing these emotions don't exactly change anything, there was only one that I mainly used and that was to run faster. As soon as you find the shotgun, and what I assume is a Rocket Launcher, you are pretty much set in slaughtering everything, so in roughly 1 hour you can finish the game as it currently is.

Be it as it may, the game is still currently in Early Access and will continue to grow.

Though it was just recently released on Steam on the 18th of February 2021, there is still much to be desired from this. It really is an easy game to play even with its one life, one playthrough rule, even though respawning is literally starting a new game from scratch.

As you can see from the above screenshots, I died not once but twice simply because I couldn't find that sweet shotgun. Another thing worth of mentioning, is that if you want some of those chests, be prepared for some frustrations with the controls. They are sloppy and hard to really get a grasp of, especially since some of these chests are in hard to reach places and can be obtained by "PARKOURING" across a small canyon or on top of pillars.

There are these 9 emotions that you can use, some are helpful while some are not, but then again these need some upgrades as they don't really change the way the game is played other than interacting with other aliens, and even then its only aesthetics.

There are things that you can pick up from other creatures that you kill which can help "A TINY BIT"

If you have ever seen Star Gate, Star Gate Atlantis or Star Gate Universe, and have seen all 354 episodes from start to finish like I have then you will probably recognise the Star Gate and D.H.D as they look so similar, wouldn't you agree too?

To me, this is easily the best thing about the game, and I'm glad I found this thing on top of the mountain. It doesn't have the same sort of characteristics but they definitely have the same idea as it!

GAMEPLAY

You are pretty much thrown into your home base with no map, and one small tutorial. When its dark, it gets really dark and very hard to see around.

The lack of a map really frustrated the heck out of me, plus the fact that I died TWICE! While forgetting where the food storage was. This game is pretty much food, shotgun, RPG, and you're set.

Run and gun while finding the chests is pretty much all you do here, not gonna lie, 2 shotting the main boss that you find on one of the worlds was pretty lame and I seriously think more work needs to be done.

There is only a handful of around 18 or so islands for the player to explore, and some "puzzle" type things available for the "Star Gates".

One strategy I did find, was allowing your hunger to go into the blue bar, then using 3 cooked food to restore = longer run times.

Also be warned, if you do not take enough Gate Crackers, you are basically stuck on the island, be sure to take enough to come back home. Jumping off the edge is a thing, but you can also die and then you will have to start over from scratch.

I ran with like 50 something crackers and 100 ammo.... Sooo.. You can imagine how boring it got.
