Ghost Town VR Review

Fans of puzzle games and VR owners are gonna love it. If you’re into puzzles, then you probably already know The Room series, especially the most famous one for VR users The Room VR: A Dark Matter. You know what I'm talking about, right? Well, now we’ve got something new: Ghost Town, a fresh title released 15 July 2025 and developed by Fireproof Games! This time it's not typical puzzle game, it's more of a story-driven game experience with puzzle elements, so if you are still interested, let's get into the story details.
It's London, 1983. Edith Penrose, a ghost hunter trying to find her missing brother and a mysterious new lead promises to reveal clues of his whereabouts.

You play as Edith Penrose and the game feels really interactive in VR. You use your hands to pick up objects, flip switches and do all sorts of things to solve puzzles. It works really well with no issues for me and you also get the option to choose between teleport or smooth movement. I would never use teleport personally. Okay, I have a bit of motion sickness but hey, who cares, I will fight through it. I have been using VR for years and honestly, if I stop playing for a while the motion sickness gets worse, but in this game it was fine. You don't really run, just walk around, which helps.

Ghost Town is considered horror but that depends on your horror tolerance. It has a creepy horror-ish vibe, especially the music, but it is not really scary, at least not for me. You have a flashlight in one hand and the other hand is free to interact with stuff, solve puzzles and sometimes use some kind of "spirit magic". It is definitely not a point and click type of game, you are physically grabbing things, flipping switches and more importantly diving into interesting stories while following ghosts. I wouldn't call the story super emotional, but it is nice. It is not just about being scary because not all ghosts are bad right?

I don’t feel like the puzzles were hard, they were actually kinda easy, but I am also a puzzle maniac, I’ve finished so many puzzle games in my life. If you pay attention to your surroundings you should be fine. The game is linear too, so you won’t get lost, but if you get stuck on some puzzle, give yourself time before using hints. Trust me, sometimes it’s better to take a break and try again with a fresh mind. You’ll realize how easy some puzzles actually were. And yeah, if it’s still giving you trouble, then go ahead and use a hint!

The game looks amazing visually, so even if you are new to VR and want to start your adventure with virtual reality, this is a really good way to begin. Also, I need to mention that I played the game on the old Oculus Rift CV1, and it had zero problems, issues or bugs or at least I didn’t find any. Even on an older headset the game looks amazing. Oculus Rift CV1 is still worth using in my opinion. Of course it has lower resolution than newer headsets, but I don’t feel like changing to be honest. I love my Oculus and I’ll take care of him for as long as I can. You can’t stop me! And I have to say, the sound quality is really good too.

If you are a fan of puzzles, ghost stories or just exploring cool and mysterious places in VR, Ghost Town is worth checking out. The gameplay feels smooth, the story is easy to follow and the whole vibe is creepy. Even if you are worried the game might be too scary for you, watching a gameplay video or demo might help you decide. For puzzle lovers like me, the puzzles are not very hard but they still feel satisfying to solve. The only downside is that the game is pretty short. It takes about 4 hours to finish, even if you take your time. But honestly, even though it’s short, it’s still fun and really well made. So obviously I do recommend the game! If you enjoy everything I mentioned above, Ghost Town is totally worth your time.
