Shooter? Spooky? Yes, but you are a teddy bear! STUFFED is a first-person shooter developed by Waving Bear Studio and published by Hypercharge Unboxed. The game first appeared in Early Access on December 9, 2021, and after a long period of updates and improvements, it finally got its full release on June 16, 2024!
As i did mention you are a Teddy Bear, but not any Teddy bear, you are the one, the special one, the only one who defends your owner's dreams! Here, your owner is a little girl, and you need to do everything you can to help her fight her nightmares. Are you ready to defend her bedroom door? Are you sure you can actually do that alone? There is really a lot of monsters to fight, and I will explain how you can fight them really soon, but first I want you to know... You can invite your friends to help you. Yeah, you did read that correct, the game supports solo mode and co-op mode with up to 4 friends!
So how does the game actually work? You start in a cozy bedroom, but it changes pretty fast, this place turns into a battlefield when the nightmares begin. And here your mission is pretty simple... or maybe not. Protect the bedroom door at all costs. It does sound simple, right? But it can be way more intense than you think. Waves of monsters keep rushing at you... and your friends, if you're not playing solo. And the monsters are not just random spooky shapes. We were all scared of something as kids, or at least I was. For me, it was darkness and i won't lie... I’m still a bit scared, but it’s not as intense as before. Here, you have got creepy ducks, shadows, and... gnomes with a plunger?!
Actually, those monsters are kind of cute. Maybe if I was still a kid, they would be a bit creepy, but nah, I think the game is mostly cute. Like... you’re a teddy bear, right? And you fight ducks, gnomes, and shadows. They look creepy, but at the same time, when you’re older, you don’t really think of them as “scary”, but trust me, if a horde of mad ducks and gnomes suddenly attacked me inside my house, I would be scared, and I would shoot all of them!

And that’s what you do here! Shoot them! With toys, of course... You start with something basic like a dart gun or water pistol, but as you play, you unlock more creative and powerful stuff. There’s a popcorn grenade launcher that throws exploding snacks, a cola bottle shotgun and even a teddy minigun that spins like crazy and melts everything in front of you. There are also melee weapons! More than one, so a lot of fun, sometimes you just want to bonk a gnome with a stick, and this game lets you do that.
You unlock weapons by collecting coins during gameplay. Every time you defeat monsters, survive waves, or explore the room, you earn coins, and you spend them at vending machines placed around the bedroom. Each machine offers different gear, so you never know what you’ll find. You also unlock better weapons by leveling up, as you play, you gain XP, and that lets you upgrade your teddy and your gear. Some upgrades give you access to new weapon types, others improve the ones you already have, like more damage, faster reload, or special effects. So the more you play, the stronger you become, but that doesn’t mean the monsters are easy to beat or that you’re going to one-shot all of them.
Don’t get me wrong, the game is not amazing or anything, but it is fun with friends. I wouldn’t play it solo, and honestly, I don’t think you can really enjoy it solo... or at least I can’t. It felt fun only with friends and if your friends go down? You can bring them back. You just need to reach them and hold the revive button for a few seconds. It’s not easy, especially when you have got monsters around you and actually, you can run out of ammo! And it happens really, really often, so as you can see, it’s not just a braindead shooter. You have to think, move, manage your gear, and help your team. For me, it was fun. Maybe not for long, but yeah... it was fun. After a while, it became repetitive and eventually a bit boring, but until then, you can enjoy time with your friends and that’s the most important part here.
