Paladins: Champions of the Realm - Beta Legacy Review #4

Originally published on 07 August 2016. Paladins: Champions of the Realm is Hi-Rez Studios' entry into the now popular hero-based FPS genre, similar to the likes of Team Fortress 2, Overwatch & Battleborn. Paladins is a fun game, unfortunately marred by a high number of poor design decisions, a small cast and some fairly large balancing issues. Paladins is, at its core, an FPS Hero Shooter, sporting a number of fairly well-designed characters across the board, and each of them play differently from one another. They also divvy up into categories, similar to other titles in the same genre - these being Tanks,

I know for a fact there are at least 2 game modes though.
There is payload and capture the point

SilverKurumi replied to HypnoticSilence September 26, 2016

There's only one Game mode. Payload and Capture the Point are mixed as one hybrid game mode.

DjGus_PT October 02, 2016

After patch 34, pure payload is now available to play, and a "new" champ added, along with skins, voice packs, etc etc etc

SilverKurumi replied to DjGus_PT October 08, 2016

Yeah, I played it, Payload is a lot more fun.
Still gonna wait on a re-review when the game is off beta tho

love the artwork - has the feel of games I used to love playing, so may give it a chance :)

Great article! Hopefully they fix all the buggy issues as it looks like my type of game.

Game has a lot of things in it to like ,but i'm not a fan of micro crafting and survival . Hope it's gonna be possible to still enjoy the story and other stuff in the final release without getting too bogged down in the bits i don't like.

Update:
An old batch of keys has become unstable, and we're working through them with customers as we speak. We're switching to a more reliable source, so key validity should improve in the coming days.

Thank you, everyone, for your patience and understanding as we trying to improve key stability.

I was luck too, being able to snag it before it went missing! A few others as well, I'll eventually get to.
Thanks for taking the time to comment, and thanks for the link! I'll absolutely give it a look!

From what I've read, it doesn't sound like it's a hugely different experience from the original anyhow.
I mainly specified because that's the version I played.
You could probably aim for one episode at a time to keep things fresh in between other gaming goals and also as a way not to torture yourself by tackling all of Nightmare mode at once.
That's one reason I was happy to have played on Luna - no achievements! So I don't feel compelled to go back and do that... I just glance at it occasionally as I'm scrolling... Should I? Eh... It's okay.
It does sound like a fun challenge, but I have other things to play. Like the sequel.

I started the original one a while ago and only a bit but never had a chance to finish. Shame, remastered is Epic exclusive on PC. Thanks for the review and reminding me my backlog :)

What a classic!
The fact I discovered in the public library of my city and rented the game when I was little. Because I didn't had internet and the rental was a couple days, I made an ISO file with Nero Burner to play the game when I pleased.
I was also lucky that I bought games in computer magazines(ComputerHoyJuegos) and Quiosks. Like having: Commandos 2, PcFútbol2001, Grouch(Rocko's Quest), S.W.A.T 3/4, Patrician III, Imperium III(Viriathus campaign being hard AF), Ground Control, NYR - New York Race, Age of Empires I & II + expansions + Mythology(+Titans), etc...
I was the lucky few that managed to buy this game before being delisted on Steam for a few €uros.
BTW if you are looking for "dead games" or want to contribute on a wiki useful for the consumers of the future, the Stop Killing Games community made a wiki with all the games that are being delisted, unplayable or in risk on dying soon:
