Games Releasing: February 2019

So with January about to come to a close with the (finally) release of Kingdom Hearts 3, here are a few picks of titles arriving in February of 2019! 1. Away: Journey to the UnexpectedReleases: Feb 5 (PS4) Feb 13 (PC), Feb 7 (Switch), Feb 8 (XB1)When I first saw this in the Kinda Funny Games Showcase awhile back, I was taken back to how colorful and cool this looks. It is a first person RPG with Paper Cut looking characters that remind me a bit of Dragon Quest mixed with Paper Mario. This one features Rogue-Lite elements and a funny

Anthem VIP Demo Impressions

So I got to spend some time with the Anthem VIP Demo, which was available for the past few days and came out pretty mixed on it. First off, I should mention a big note: I was one of the users that continually had the Infinite Loading Screen Error and thus didn't experience everything it had to offer - this is mainly an impression of what is readily available as well as the combat system and movement. So right from the get go I have to say, the game looks downright beautiful. The Hub world has a lot of shine to it,

Tales of Vesperia: Definitive Edition Review

The Tales Of series of games almost always present themselves on creative, but cliche'd writing. Many regard Vesperia as the crowning jewel of the franchise, but is this really the case? My answer is a resounding "Yes" but not without a couple flaws that may make or break the game for some. Right off the bat, we're introduced to one of the most likeable characters in the franchise, the ever so blunt protagonist that goes by the name of Yuri Lowell, a resident of the Lower Quarters in a place called Zaphias, a city that has a rough divide between the

Games in 2019 - RPGs

In 2019, we will take on the role of researchers, rangers, saviors and detectives, and in doing so we will visit some truly interesting worlds. It could be said that 2019 won't be the year of high-budget RPG projects. During it, we are unlikely to play Cyberpunk 2077 and Starfield, and we should not expect either Dragon Age 4 or The Elder Scrolls 6. However, RPG games in 2019 have one consoling fact - most of them take place in new worlds, which in translation means that we expect a bit of originality and some fresh ideas from them. Here are the

Gore Tech's evolution in video games.

Gore, video games have always been associated with the most visceral presentation of it even more so than movies at times due to it's interactive nature, but the actual tech used by games in order to develop a sense of tension and blood splattering violence has not always been incredibly convincing, with a few notorious leaps in progression from time to time.Resident Evil 2 Remake appears to be another great leap in the right direction.Let us not forget the earliest examples of "Gore" in games like the original Mortal Kombat, while at the time it sent adults into a frenzy and

Retro Dose #32 - Pokemon Stadium

The move of the ultra-popular Pokemon franchise to the 3D world was a big step for a great series of games, but also for a powerful N64 console. It has been a long time since Pokemon ruled the world. Thanks to the recent appearance of Pokemon GO, it seems to us that they will remain relevant for a long time. Of course, it is worth mentioning Nintendo's support for the franchise because if it didn't exist, the Pokemon probably would not be half of what they are.Although most of the Pokemon games have difficulty evolving, we will recall their biggest step so

Tanzia Review

I was always interested in WoW, but for some reason it was oftenly more frustrating than it was fun, mainly because of players who were just there to ruin your experience, then I got this game to review, and for some reason it reminds me of WoW, but single-player.The plot for Tanzia is not an intricate one. In the shoes of a humanoid shaman, we’re tasked with discovering more about a series of magic-related incidents. The many NPCs often speak about Voodoo and letters from a powerful relative lead us into a hectic chase. Pretty standard fantasy stuff but solid enough for

The Pros and Cons of Emulating Illegally Acquired ROMs

We've probably all revisited an old game from our past at one point or another, to reminisce to simpler times, indulge feelings of nostalgia or to share a game that means something to us with our children or loved ones. Remasters are popular for the very same reason, they give us reasons to go back a relive an experience that once gave us joy.We all have different tastes and experiences and because of that, have played different games over our years - some of these could have been rare or abandoned titles that have no accessible presence in the modern world.

Gaming Now and Then - Retro Store

We’ve covered news local to “Opium Pulses HQ” in the past with the ‘Bring  the Game Over’ service offered in and around Oxfordshire, United Kingdom. This time should interest both local and international video game collectors as most of what’s on offer can be bought across the globe!Recently, in my sleepy hometown of Faringdon, a temporary store popped up among the seemingly dying street of shops and I was instantly intrigued. The plan so far is to only stay open until the end of 2018, however the journey has been a positive one so who knows what will happen?Simply named ‘Gaming
